Lines! (Assignment 1)

Image
This assignment took longer than expected. It was fun and relaxing walking around my neighborhood and looking at all the lines, finding the right word for the emotion or adjective I was seeing with it: (sorry for the bad lightning)  The hard part came with actually sketching out the those adjectives and emotions. I did it, but the lines never really turned out like I wanted them too. That was fine, but next time I know to just sketch it out more than I did to really get the idea down, and add more or less to it:  Its hard to see, but I choose the six words and sketches that I had a more solid foundation with, and went from there. When making the finished product I changed it from the original sketch to something more final and new. The words I choose were compacted, beautiful, saggy, twisted, structured, and rigid:  Here is the final project! I tried to keep symmetrical and asymmetrical pieces together along with bolder lines and thinner lines.

Value Portrait! (Sketch Book B)

So for Sketch Book B I decided to paint my friend Taylor!: I cropped the photo so I had a good close up on her face than, I put the photo through the free app Clips which gave me this:  I don't have pictures of the me putting down carbon paper, forgetting to tape it down in my sketchbook than moving the carbon paper around messing me up and making me start over again, but in the end I got my sketch!:  Next was the tough part, because I never used gauche before this project and I had to mess around with it a little to get a feel for the paint. I did some practice strokes, experimented with the paint and figured out the mixing process, sadly I don't have a picture of my messy sketchbook page, but I do have the finished product!:  I really like this piece and I even framed and hung it on my wall. I added some extra shading and value to it, but here is my finished product!
